Melges IC37* “ICY”
Designed by Mark Mills, the Melges IC37 Class was developed to create great one-design racing from the outset of the class by utilising a level playing field across the fleet.
From the Designer Mark Mills:
“The Melges IC37 is a mid-sized, all-rounder and is highly capable in class racing, IRC, ORCi and ORR and has an awful lot to offer the discerning racer.
The thought process for the IC37 was always to put the power back into the hands of the owner, on a platform that offers that big boat feel, but with a design that is easy to maintain and doesn't require huge owner and crew input, particularly financially.
The IC37 fills a substantial gap in the market for those sailors that are looking for fun, fast sailing, with potent rating performance and most importantly ease of use”
Following their impressive launch in collaboration with the New York Yacht Club, the Class has grown from strength to strength. The New York Yacht Club believed in the design, concept, and Class so much that it committed to a 20-boat fleet for member charter. Thus, ensuring there is great one-design racing from the outset of the class. Built to exacting standards by Fibre Mechanics in the UK, you can be assured of top level one design racing around the World in years to come.
Launched in 2019, ICY was upgraded from the original Melges IC37 specifications to be more competitive in the Solent fleets. On her debuted in the UK she didn’t disappoint by achieving a huge amount of success in her first two seasons. Amongst the success was a Cowes Week class victory overall.
Upgrades from original specifications modifications:
• IRC optimised keel fin and bulb
• Fixed bowsprit with modified bobstay
• Fitted with spinnaker staysail
• Fitted with Code 0
