Farr 280* Gweilo

Build by Premier Composite Technologies and launched in 2015 as Toucan, this Farr 280 has undergone some extensive IRC optimisation which has resulted in a race winning, high performance sports boat.

The Far 280 class is hugely popular in the USA and provides great One Design racing with this relatively new grand prix racer. The boat has dynamic performance on all points of sail with a focus on great inshore racing in this smaller boat package.

The boat arrived in the UK and underwent an extensive IRC optimisation refit to be more competitive in the HP30 Class racing in the Solent. This was achieved by:
• Removing the inboard engine and using a lightweight outboard engine
• New Heol Composite carbon mast and boom
• Deck layout upgrades.
• Sail plan optimisation
• Complete hydraulic system overhaul which includes full rig control systems while racing.

The outcome of the refit is an incredible example of this high-performance sports boat that has dominated the HP30 class ever since. The boat finished 1st in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons overall and is the boat to have!

Gweilo races with a full suit of North Sails 3Di Raw that has been optimised for racing under IRC in the Solent. The boat is dry sailed and lives on her own custom trailer with storage boxes that will be sold with the boat.
